Christopher Harrison Mulhern
Chris is the founder and sole principal of Harrison Mulhern Architects. His interest in the built world started when he was very young and was encouraged by this parents, who showed him that architecture, at the confluence of art and engineering, would be a great fit for his interests and abilities. Educated at the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO and Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Chris has been practicing professionally since 1974 and is licensed to practice in four states. The entire design and construction process is of interest to Chris, with particular emphasis on the initial conceptual design phase and the detailing of the building envelope. Figuring out how to transform an architectural concept into a buildable and sustainable structure and finding the best way to communicate that information to the builders is an ever-changing challenge. Richard Neutra, Lou Kahn and Santiago Calatrava are among his architectural heroes. In addition to his project responsibilities, Chris handles the administrative side of the business, including business development, accounting, and human resources. Outside the office, Chris is a Director of the Winchester Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Winchester Rotary Club, and a founding Director of the Winchester Community Service Foundation, a local non-profit dedicated to promoting service learning and community service in the local school system. Chris is married with three children and two step children. He is passionate about skiing, both on snow and on water. Other interests include hiking, canoeing, windsurfing, sailing, travel, woodworking and photography.
Akhtar manages a wide range of projects at Harrison Mulhern Architects. He is skilled at program analysis, schematic design and documenting projects for construction. A graduate of Roger Williams University, his stylistic interests range from Victorian to Arts and Crafts to Modern. He is able to integrate new construction with a wide variety of existing styles. Akhtar draws inspiration from his parents; his late mother’s strong willed resilience and his dad’s courage, compassion and work ethic. Outside the office, Akhtar enjoys travel, reading, and golf. Akhtar brings his unique design sensibilities to many of our high profile projects; our work is much better for his contribution.

A long term member of the HMA team, Mark brings wide ranging experience and technical knowhow to our design process. In addition to his management of commercial projects, we count on Mark to carefully resolve and document the detailed nuances of our work. His thoughtful consideration of how materials fit together and clear documentation are essential to the functionality and beauty of our designs. Outside of the practice, Mark enjoys reading, walking, and experiencing nature. His life experience and unique perspective on the built world add much to our practice.
Keith has been an important part of HMA over the past eight years. A Wentworth Institute of Technology graduate, Keith holds a Bachelor in Architectural Engineering Technology. For Keith, the best part of the architectural process is helping clients realize their vision. “I feel as though spaces often design themselves when a client’s needs are considered and program requirements are met.” Outside of work, Keith spends lots of time with his 12 year-old son, mainly engaged in sports. Basketball, skiing, hiking, snowboarding, and obstacle racing are the current favorites. He also values the opportunity to influence young minds, leading a boy’s book group and teaching middle schoolers 3-D design on the computer.
