The twenty acre rural site in upstate New York offered long views of the rolling hills to the south. Our client wanted a modest home which took advantage of the views and blended with the traditional agricultural vernacular of the region. The final design arranged the main living spaces on one level behind a long covered porch providing summer shade while allowing the winter light to penetrate. Guest rooms are tucked under the eaves of a wide gable roof. Rolling barn doors protect the porch sitting areas, allowing their use in the shoulder seasons. Simple exterior detailing and muted colors help this home fit into its rural setting.
